Distinguished Members of the European Parliament,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

The Ex-Muslims of Norway together with the Polish atheist Kazimierz Lyszczynski Foundation, the Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain (CEMB) and listed below organizations who signed this document urge the European Parliament to take immediate measures and exert pressure on the Egyptian government to release the atheist activist Sherif Gaber.

Sherif Gaber, already persecuted for his atheism in the past, has been arrested on bases of blasphemy on May 2, 2018 in Cairo International Airport while traveling to Malaysia . This act of the Egyptian authorities constitutes a violation of the articles 18 and 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and of international standards of civil liberties. We strongly condemn these violations and call on all free people in the European Union and around the world to stand by Sherif Gaber and make every effort to free him.

We also take this opportunity to call upon the European Parliament to initiate necessary political actions to prevent violations of freedom of conscience and to stop persecutions of atheists in Egypt and worldwide.
Thank you .
