KLF’s message to the Human-Etisk Forbund, Norway on Oslo shooting

We were outraged and saddened to learn about the shooting that took place in the London Pub, a popular LGBTQ+ venue in Oslo last Saturday.
On behalf of the Kazimierz Lyszczynski Foundation, we strongly condemn the heinous attack of violence and express our solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community and the society of Norway. Our thoughts are with the wounded and those who have lost friends and family.

This attack is a reminder of the threat we all face from religiously motivated hate.

Last year, thanks to your generous support and partnership with your organization, our Foundation carried out a billboard campaign against homophobia in Poland as part of the broader project "Stop religiously motivated hatred". The recent events in Oslo clearly show that there is a need to continue this kind of activity on a larger international scale. Whether it is the symbolic elimination of LGBT people through the creation of "LGBT-free zones" by Catholics in Poland (followed by acts of real violence), or the London Pub shooting in Oslo or the massacre at the headquarters of Charlie Hebdo in Paris, accompanied by shouts “Allahu Akbar”, it is about the same religiously motivated hatred and violence aiming to limit human rights and freedoms. We must stand firm in upholding humanist values, in particular the human right to choose who to love, whether and how many children to have, when and how to die. Religions cannot be a pretext and justification for depriving people of their rights and using physical, moral, or symbolic violence.

Today we join you in sorrow and protest the hateful attack on LGBTQ+ people in Oslo. Tomorrow, we want to intensify international cooperation for building hate-free societies, to openly and clearly STOP RELIGIOUSLY MOTIVATED HATRED.

In solidarity,

Marek Łukaszewicz, President of the Kazimierz Lyszczynski Foundation
Nina Sankari, Vice President
